DALI Dimming

DALI Dimming and fading

DALI defines dimming for all drivers.    While the dimming level is an 8 bit number from 0 to 254, these values are converted by a logrithmic curve to 4096 levels by the AL-WS-DR2.   We therefore dim from 100 uA to 1400 mA in 4096 steps.

This is especially import during fade - the AL-WS-DR2 can change from one light level to another with a smooth soft fade, for this to look good, requires very precise dimming.

The dimming level can be set by the slider on the AL-WS-DR2, by the 3-Way switch attached to the AL-WS-DR2 remotely, or by DALI.   The last level selected is stored in the switch for recall after a power outage.

If the user changes the dimming level at the switch - this is sent to the bus to be used by other switches in Tandem mode, and to be recorded by the hub ( if there is a hub ).

There are 2 dimming levels in each AL-WS-DR2, the slider on the physical master switch, and a virtual dimmer associated with the 3-way.  Press and hold the 3-Way momentary button to change the dimming level.

If a CCT bulb is attached, then dim to warm is enabled by default,  this can be disabled by the hub.    ( the hub does not have to remain at the house ).  Fade times can also be changed.    Dim to Warm means that the bulb goes to a warm color as the light is turned down.
