Setting up a New DALI installation
Step by step to install a new DALI system with the AL-WS series DALI switches
- We recommend the PSE-8D, PSE-4D, PSE-24D, PWS-8D or DF-10 to be the distribution panel for your system. For this document, we call that device a "PSE". These provide Power and Data for your lights. Note: any simple awg18 wire pair or CAT-5 wire pair can be used to connect the DALI Master ( like ATX LED Hub ) to the DALI bus. See DALI intro.
- Verify that each AL-WS-DR2 light switch with built in driver operates manually from the switch, and that the lights can be turned on and off.
- Visually inspect the DALI data connections - the DALI lines are polarity tolerant, but if your 18/5 cable has white and yellow wires - then we suggest that white be DALI - and Yellow be DALI + ( Green should be earth ground, blue is power - and red is power +)
- Provide the PSE with at least 44 volts of power ( up to 51 volts). Connect it to the AL-DALI-Pi control hub using an ethernet cable.
- You should see a RED light inside the case of the AL-DALI-PI and the fan should be running
- The DALI status light on the PSE should come on - if it is off, then the DALI bus is shorted. Unplug the loads one by one until the short is identified, correct the short. If there is no DALI light with all loads removed, contact the factory
- Connect the ATX LED Hub to your wifi or wired network - see these instructions here
- Once logged into the ATX LED Hub, go to Advanced, click on "Query DALI Power status". The key value is the voltage - it should be 14 volts or more
- Once you have 14 volts or more, go to the Admin page - and click on "Address Assignment". This will give all the DALI devices a unique ID number ( this is called a "short address")
- Wait for this to complete, then go to DALI Devices. Your devices are here - you can name them and control them.
- See ZWD for more info on usage
