Overview
The AL-WS-010v is a DALI enabled wall switch with PWM and 0-10v dimming control outputs. This switch can be used to control any DALI device. The switch is powered using the DA pins - 16-24 volts is recommended, less than 50 milliwatts – 4 mA – is required.

Parts
Front Rocker switch and slider
The switch has an On/Off rocker and a slider. These control the on-board PWM and 0-10v outputs, and also sends DALI commands to other devices on the bus. See the manual for more information on DALI commands.
DALI I/O
The switch has a DALI inputs ( 2 x 2 pins with pass-thru) to connect the switch to the DALI bus and to daisy chain the switch to another DALI enabled device.
Dali Receive allows the 0-10v and PWM outputs to be controlled using DALI commands
Dali Transmit allows the front rocker switch and dimmer slider to control other DALI devices
Dali Transceiver allows virtual 3-way, the On/Off state of the PWM and 0-10v outputs will be the XOR of local and remote On/Off changes.
note: the DA input is also power for the switch, the PWM output and the 0-10v outputs, when connecting to a PWM or 0-10v driver - there will be a diode path between the DALI ground and the control ground. In most cases this is not an issue - but please be aware.
0-10v - version 13 only
On both 0-10v outputs 0v is Off and 1 to 10v is On. The dimming range for the 1-10v output is .4% to 100% in 254 steps.
Two dimming modes are supported: White and Tunable White
There are two 0-10v outputs, A and B. A has the same dimming level as the PWM output and A and B are normally the same. However B is used for external Fan control and for PIR led dimming. See DALI command 35 for this function.
A is cool white when used in CCT mode. , and B is the Warm White when CCT is used.
PWM - version 3 only
The PWM output is a 0 to 3.3v signal at 500 Hz. The Min/Max can be set by DALI commands.
Switch Modes
The 0-10v switch has a set of 8 dip switches to provide control of the switch. The most common modes for these switches are: DALI configuration, Broadcast, Address Select, and Group Select. See data sheet
DALI Configuration - 00000111 - This mode allows the AL-WS-010v short address and all other settings to be set via a DALI configuration device – for example the USB DALI-100. Until configured the device will only respond to broadcast commands and will not transmit DALI on switch changes. By default no short address is defined.
Broadcast - 11111111 - Switch values will be broadcast to all DALI fixtures, including those with no short addresses assigned. This can be used before any DALI setup has occurred to check if every device is connected to the DALI bus.
Address Select - XXXXXX00 - The first six bits can be used to manually set the address of the switch. The address is read in binary and can be any value between 0 and 63. LSB is switch 1, therefore DALI address 6 has switch 2 and 3 ON.
Group Select - XXXX0010 - The first four bits set the group address. This gives user the option to group switches together without the need for configuration. LSB is switch 1, therefore DALI group 3 has switch 1 and 2 ON.
Installation
Rough In
During the rough in phase the considerations for a 0-10v switch is that it needs a wall box, typically a gang box, and a CAT5 wire to the DALI bus. If either of the control outputs are used then there needs to be a separate CAT5 line running from the switch to the LED driver with a 0-10v or PWM input. Only use a Daisy chain method - don't implement branches. Each wall box has a DALI input and output link. Mark the input links with tape.
If 3-Way switching is used, then a CAT5 line will go from the AL-WS-010v location to the slave wall switch location.
Verify that an earth ground ( for example, the 16/4 cable used by a AL-WS-DR2 has an earth ground)
Test
Before Sheetrock - test each CAT-5 run with a toner to assure it goes to either the home-run panel or to another wall box. Verify that all 3-way links are wired.
Trim
Terminate all the CAT-5e cables at the central Panel, and connect to the AL-Struct panel. Verify that DALI power is present. Start from each home run and wire the switches using the Brown/Brown-White pair of the cable. Verify DALI power on Brown/Brown-White using the DALI detector, and if power is detected, insert into either of the DA pairs. The Light should be on. At trim, the switch should be connected to the DALI bus and the control lines should be tied into the devices they are controlling.
The remote 3-Way switches are connected using the Blue-BlueWhite pairs, or the Orange-OrangeWhite pairs to the N-Way input of the AL-WS-010v.
The metal plate of the AL-WS-010v should be connected to an earth ground.
We recommend the DALI Detector device, and a volt meter in case of shorts or other problems. The only hardware tools needed for trim is wire strippers to strip the CAT5 lines, and a drill to drive in the 6-32 screws. All wires should be stripped 1/4" before being terminated in the switch.
Programming
If you use the switches to configure the AL-WS-010v, set the address method and address using the DIP switches, Nothing else is required, programming is not required, no DALI-Master is required.
For more complex setups, the AL-DALI-Pi hub with ZWD allows all switch actions to be monitored and connected to Cloud services. The switches will be detected by LorControl unless they are in transmit only mode.
