Virtual Groups with DALI DMX

Controlling DMX devices using the

AL-DALI-DMX with AL-WS-010v

See DALI and DMX - merged solution

The AL-DALI-DMX device is typically used together with the AL-WS-010v wall switch.  This switch operates in two multi master modes
  • DALI Transceiver with manual address switch settings.
the Transceiver mode is best for simple setups.   The Hue Emulator will scan the bus looking for devices that respond to DALI command 171 with the value 165.   These are AL-WS-010v devices.   They can do only 1-1 address mapping from DALI to DMX.

  • DALI controlled with DALI master assigned switch addresses.
the controlled mode is best for large installations.  The Hue Emulator will scan the bus and get all the information about the switch including tuneable white support.   They can do one-many addressing for large installations.

AL-DALI-DMX with Virtual DALI devices

In Virtual device mode - the Hue Emulator can be configured with 4 groups with up to 63 virtual DALI (DMX) addresses per group .   These are virtual DALI devices on the DALI bus, which can be read by the AL-DALI-DMX device.   This allows a mixture of physical and virtual devices.

The 63 Virtual DALI devices support these basic commands from the physical bus - they are no visible from the Hue emulator - only Non Empty Groups are registered as devices in the Hue App.

The Virtual devices respond to DALI bus commands.
a) ARC levels - to support feedback to the Hue App  (Individual, Group, Broadcast)
b) Group Add/subtract
c) Commands:
  • 0 = off
  • 5 = Max_Level
  • 6 = Min_Level;
  • 42 = Set Max
  • 43 = Set Min
  • 44 = Set Sequential for DMX ( System Fail)
  • 153 = return 8 if CCT, otherwise 6
  • 160 = return ARC level
  • 161 = return Max
  • 162 = return Min
  • 164 = return systemfail ( Sequential)
  • 192 = return Groups 0-7
  • 193 = return Groups 8-15
  • 226 = save CCT Color
  • 231 = Set CCT Color
  • 257 = Load DTreg
  • 268 = query Short Address = 255 if yes
  • 272 = Enable CCT type 8
  • 273 = Load DTreg1
  • 274 = Load DTreg2
