The AL-STRUCT is a wiring panel specifically designed for the ATX LED system. The panel can provide power to switches and fixtures and will supply power for the DALI bus. Each panel has six power and DALI outputs.

Parts
Power Module
The power module is designed for low voltage applications. Each of the six power outputs on the face has a 2A fuse. At 48v, this limits the power to 96 watts in order to ensure the system stays below the 100 watt NEC code limit.
There are three terminals on each power output. The right output is positive, the middle output is negative, and the left output is earth ground.
On the back of the panel there are terminal blocks on the left and right to connect incoming power or to connect power to other panels. The inputs on the sides of the power panel are both the same so when connecting to another panel bring 16 gauge wire from each input to the same input on the adjoining panel.
The top input is for earth ground. Use 16 gauge wire to connect earth ground and to jumper earth ground to each panel.
The power distribution has 2 inputs to supply a matched set of 48 power supplies. Power from each input is sent to alternate power output terminals. Should either power supply fail, a relay will route the power to all 6 outputs. The matched power supplies can be either rated for full system power each, or using the Failover detection provided, they could be 1/2 of the rated power.
DALI Module
The data module has 6 RJ45 data connectors using typical CAT-5e wire. It includes a DALI 16 volt 60 mA power supply for up to 25 DALI devices total ( 2 mA each). Each CAT-5e wire in the panel should be terminated with an RJ45 connector in T568B order.
On the back of the panel there is a DALI terminal block with two pairs of DALI inputs that should be used to connect multiple panels together.
NOTE: When connecting a separate DALI power supply or device, the solid brown wire in the CAT5 is DALI minus (D-) and the brown and white striped wire is DALI plus (D+).Switch Setting
The dip switches located on the back of the panel can be used to change certain settings. Typically the switches should read 10010 for normal operation. More information on the panel switches can be found in the manual.
Housing
The panel comes with a plastic housing. The panel can be removed from this housing by pulling the four holding pieces away from the panel and pulling the panel out. To put the panel back in push it back in until all four holding pieces click back into place.
Installation
Rough in
During rough in, install an AV panel where all of your wires will terminate. No other installation is need for the panel.
Trim
Before connecting the panel to anything, the housing needs to be mounted. Use #6 self tapping screws with a minimum length of 1/2" to secure the housing. Screw the housing into the main AV panel at the indicated points.
If there are multiple panels, be sure to connect the DALI busses together using the terminal block on the back of the data module and a length of the 24 AWG wire from CAT-5e. Make a loop with the wire so that each panel can be take out and accessed independently.
Connecting power from two power supplies to the panel is simple. There are two power inputs, one on each side of the power module. The middle input on both is ground. The top input is the A input and the bottom is the B input. When wiring panels together, a length of 16 AWG wire should connect each input to the same input on the other side. On the ends of the string of panels, one power supply positive will go to the A terminal and the B terminal on the bottom will be left open. On the opposite side, the second power supply will connect to the B terminal and the A terminal will be left open. The ground of both power supplies will tie into the middle input.
The top input on the back of the power module is for earth ground. Use 16 gauge wire to connect earth ground and to jumper earth ground to each panel.
Note: Power should only be supplied to the panel once all the lights and switches are connected limit the chance of a short.
During trim all the CAT-5e DALI wires need to be terminated with an RJ45 connector and plugged into the panel.
Trim Tools
The tools needed for this product are wire strippers to prep the 16/4 and CAT-5e wires, RJ45 male headers and an RJ45 crimper, #6 self tapping screws to mount the housing, and a drill for the screws.
Hardware Versions
- V0 has no micro,
- V1 has a 5 pin position switch, and a BJT transistor for Q6. For the BJT to work, R15 needs to be lowered to 120 ohms
- V2 has a 6 position dip switch, FET drive with current limiter.
DALI on non-twisted lines: If noise is experienced on non-twisted pair DALI cabling - a 1 uf Cap on the Q5 collector might be required.
