Overview of the ZWD application for the Raspberry Pi

The AL-DALI-Pi can emulate a Philips Hue lightswitch or bulb.  There are these types of Emulated devices  

  • AL series DALI wall switch dimmers (AL-PWS-DR1 and AL-WS-DR2)
  • AL-WS-010v wall switches
  • Al-WS-TW2 tunable white drivers
  • AL-DALI-DMX protocol converter
  • Each type can be either single color or tuneable white

Operation with the Browser app

After installation, you can access the different control pages from an iPhone or Laptop on your network

Use the Dali Master page to scan the bus and assign addresses and serial numbers to new devices.

If you get an error message " Public IP Not in database"  then your Pi is not yet configured, or you are not connected by WiFi to the same network as the Pi.   Note: this system does not work with a proxy.    The list of devices in the Hue page will not be correct until the Hue App is running.  

Operation with the Hue App

  1. These instructions are for Alexa - Google is similar
  2. Install the Hue App on your phone
  3. in the Hue App - goto Settings
  4. click on add Hue Bridge
  5. search for a Hue Bridge -
  6. click search - ( select the round bridge if that option is presented )
  7. the Bridge will be detected by the Hue app
  8. Click connect - if you get a picture of a cat paw - clode close
  9. the App will display the new lights found ( these are the DALI bus devices )
  10. in Settings - click on Room Setup - add a room
  11. in settings - click on light setup - rename the lights
  12. Rename the devices to your required names
  13. reboot the Pi, close and restart the Hue App
  14. ask Alexa to scan the Hue bulbs
  15. turn them on / off / dim with the Hue App or Alexa voice control
     

Remote access
 

if all is working up to here - the Hue Emulation works while you are at home, you will use the Alexa interface for controls and Alexa skills for scheduling.
